Murray McDavid Whisky Celebrates 30 Years Coastal Embrace Collection
Murray McDavid Whisky Celebrates 30 Years with the Coastal Embrace Collection.
For three decades, Murray McDavid has been at the forefront of whisky innovation, redefining the boundaries of Scotch through its pioneering approach to maturation and cask artistry. Since its founding in 1994, the brand has built a legacy of crafting exceptional whiskies that honour tradition while embracing creativity, earning a reputation as a leader in independent bottling and the Art of Maturation.
Now, in celebration of 30 years of whisky artistry, Murray McDavid proudly introduces the Coastal Embrace Collection—an exclusive series of 28-year-old blended malt Scotch whiskies that honour the rugged allure of Scotland’s coastal distilleries. This remarkable collection delves into the profound flavours crafted through expert cask maturation, offering a taste experience that is both timeless and boldly adventurous.
The Coastal Embrace Collection has five chapters, each combining acclaimed spirit from distinguished coastal distilleries including Highland Park, Laphroaig, and Bunnahabhain and supported by classic single malts from Speyside. This hearty marriage of malts has been further matured in five unique casks and each bottled to showcase Murray McDavid’s expertise and prowess in producing inspired Scotch whisky — a process that has defined the brand for 30 years.
The Coastal Embrace Collection
Each ‘chapter’ in this collection has matured for nearly three decades, evolving within oak casks that infuse their own rich and unique character into the whisky. Each expression is finished in top-quality casks from renowned wine and spirit producing regions — adding global influences to coastal Scottish spirit.
Finished in a Cognac Puncheon for five years, Chapter I brings subtle influences of sweet spice, salted caramel, and apple. The generous French oak cask has developed a complex, luxurious character in the whisky, merging French elegance with Scotland’s wild coasts.
Finished in a Diamond Rum Barrel for five and a half years, this chapter features lively notes of lemon drizzle, sweet grass, and soft smoke. The rum cask brings an exotic dimension, creating a harmonious dram that marries coastal spirit with Caribbean passion.
Enriched by an Oloroso Sherry Hogshead for five and a half years, this chapter combines creamy malt and fruity caramel with notes of orange oils and salted butter. The Oloroso finish deepens the coastal whisky’s smoky elegance, reminiscent of a bygone era of Scotch.
Aged in a Pedro Ximénez Sherry Hogshead for six years, this chapter offers creamy caramel and baked fruit aromas, with flavours of smoky toffee and toasty malt. With a luxurious PX Sherry finish bringing the warmth of Spain, this whisky exudes a decadent, sophisticated sweetness.
Finished in a Château Lafite Barrique for six years, this chapter delivers rich notes of plum jam, baking spice, and toasted almond, enhanced by hints of salinity and dark fruits. A robust and unforgettable dram, it captures the influence of Bordeaux’s revered wine heritage.
“It’s exciting times for the Murray McDavid Team.” said Dean Jode, Head of Whisky Creation. “Each chapter of the Coastal Embrace Collection reflects a unique path of maturation, each telling their own compelling story. This collection serves as a testament to our 30-year journey, as we continue to courageously explore the Art of Maturation. We’re also about to embark on our fourth decade with the challenge of reviving the iconic Dallas Dhu Distillery, further cementing our legacy in the Scotch whisky industry”.
The Coastal Embrace Collection is a limited release, embodying the depth and diversity of Murray McDavid’s maturation expertise that has been built up over three decades. The strength and success of the brand will allow them to continue to push the boundaries of Scotch whisky.
